Privacy Policy – Bomen
Last updated: 22 October 2026
Bomen is a card game. No account is needed. Without online play, the game itself collects no personal data.
Who is responsible
- Bomen is made by Unstabieley Games (sole proprietorship of Bradley Zom, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Chamber of Commerce no. 42195676). Contact: support@bomencardgame.com. This address is also the point of contact for users and authorities (including under the EU Digital Services Act). You can write to us in English or Dutch.
On your own device
- Your settings (such as your name at the table), a saved game, your statistics, progress, achievements and score sheet are stored on your own device only. They are removed when you uninstall the app. You can also clear your statistics inside the game.
Ads (free phone app only)
- The free app for Android and iPhone shows an ad after some finished games, never while you play. These ads come from Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited).
- For this, Google may process data such as your IP address (and from it a general location), your device's advertising ID, information about your device and which ads you have seen. Google may also process data outside the EU, with the safeguards Google uses for that. See how Google uses data.
- Age. After your first game, the app asks once in which year you were born (you can also choose "I'd rather not say"). On iPhone, Apple's own "share your age range" window may appear instead, if your iPhone supports it; on Android, Google Play may tell the app your age group where a law requires it (for example in some US states). The year or age group stays on your device (Google's answer isn't stored at all). If the app has both, the more careful one counts. For ads, Google is only told whether to treat you as a minor or a child, never your age.
- If you are 18 or older, the app first asks for your consent to personalised ads in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland (and some US states). You can change or withdraw your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy choices for ads.
- If you are under 18, or rather not say, you never get personalised ads and are not asked for consent. Under 13, Google also treats you as a child. All ads are suitable for all ages.
- On iPhone, the app does not ask permission to track you.
- You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings.
Bomen Plus (purchase)
- If you buy Bomen Plus, Apple or Google handle the payment. We receive no payment details; the app only asks the store whether you bought Plus.
- With Bomen Plus you see no ads.
Online play (if you choose to use it)
- Online play uses our server at a hosting company in the EU (Hetzner Online GmbH, Germany), which keeps the data for us only.
- The server keeps: a random ID for your device (made by the app), a hashed key, the name you choose and your level, that you accepted the rules, whom you blocked, reports you made or received, and which names were removed earlier after reports. No e-mail address, no password and no IP addresses. (Your IP address is only used in memory while you are connected, to limit misuse; it is not stored.)
- Other players see your chosen name (unless they hide names of strangers), your level and your moves in the game.
- Weekly challenge: if online play is on, the app sends your moves of that game to the server. The server replays the game to check your score and puts the score of your first game of that week on the ranking with your name (only that game counts).
- Moving progress with a short code: the app sends a copy of your progress (level, stars, achievements, statistics and settings) to the server and gets a short code back. The copy is deleted as soon as the code is used on your other device, and otherwise after 24 hours. Without internet you can use a long code; then nothing goes to the server.
- Running games exist only in the server's memory and are gone afterwards.
- Automatic name checks. Names are checked automatically for swear words and the like. A name reported by at least 3 players from at least 2 different games is removed automatically; reports from players who often report wrongly count for less. You then choose a new name. If your name is removed 3 times within half a year, you play on without a name of your own for a while. The app tells you why. Disagree? Email us and a person will look at it.
Why we may do this (legal bases)
- Online play, the weekly challenge and keeping your name: needed to provide the service you ask for (performance of the rules you accepted).
- Reports, blocks and name checks: our legitimate interest in keeping the game safe and pleasant.
- Ads: your consent (in Europe). Bomen Plus: performance of the purchase.
How long we keep data
- Devices that never chose a name: deleted after a week. All other online data: one year after you last played online, or straight away when you delete it yourself.
- Reports: half a year. Weekly challenge scores: four weeks. A copy for moving progress: until the code is used, at most 24 hours.
- Players who were excluded: as long as the exclusion lasts, and at most two years after their last visit.
- The server makes a backup every day; backups are deleted after 14 days. Deleted data therefore also disappears from the backups within 14 days.
Your rights
- You may see your data, have it corrected or deleted, restrict its use, object, and receive a copy. You can always withdraw consent for ads (see above). Email us; we answer within a month. You can also delete everything yourself straight away via Play online → Delete my online data.
- If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (or the authority in your own country).
- Online play is meant for everyone aged 13 and over. The app therefore asks for your birth year the first time; under 13, online play stays closed.
Storage and backups
- Your game, progress and settings are stored on your device. The phone apps also keep a copy in the app's settings, so nothing is lost if the phone frees up space; that copy is included in your phone's backup (Google or iCloud) if you have it turned on. The Steam version keeps the copy in a file that Steam Cloud stores, if you have it turned on. We never see any of it.
Achievements (Steam, Google Play Games, Game Center)
- In the Steam version, the game passes achievements you earn on to Steam, so they appear on your Steam profile. Valve's privacy policy applies to that.
- On Android, the game passes achievements you earn on to Google Play Games, if you use it. Google's privacy policy applies to that.
- On iPhone, the game passes achievements you earn on to Game Center, if you're signed in to it. Apple's privacy policy applies to that.
Daily reminder (only if you turn it on)
- Your phone schedules a notification at 7 pm by itself. Nothing is sent over the internet for this.
Error report (only if you copy it yourself)
- If something goes wrong in the game, it keeps a short technical error message on your device. Nothing is sent. You can copy the report yourself under About and send it to us.
E-mail to us
- If you email us (also through "Send feedback"), we use your e-mail address and message only to answer you, and delete them once your question has been dealt with, at the latest after a year. A feedback e-mail already contains the game version, the type of device and any recent error messages; you see all of it before you send.
Website
- bomencardgame.com shows this policy, the online rules and how to delete your data. The website uses no cookies, no analytics and no content from others. The company that hosts the website briefly processes your IP address to show the page and keep the site secure.
Changes
- If this policy changes, we update the date at the top. For big changes we let you know in the app.
